Matt. 25:40 “Amen I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
The Human Concerns Committee seeks to support our parish mission to seek, know, and become Christ, by focusing on the implementation of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy within our parish and in the greater community.
Committee members and other volunteers fulfill this mission with the following projects:
VETERAN’S BINGO: Bingo is provided to the residents at Fairchild Hall, an assisted living facility on the Veteran’s grounds in Union Grove, the second Wednesday of each month except in December. Attendance for bingo averages around 20 people. Every player wins each of 3 games and prizes are provided after each win.
VETERAN’S CHRISTMAS GIFTS: In October the activity staff at all 3 facilities on the Veteran’s campus in Union Grove begin compiling gift suggestions for the residents after discussing with them what they might like for Christmas. That list is forwarded to St. Mary’s chairperson, the tags are made and hung on the Christmas tree in church around the 1st or 2nd week in November. Parishioners remove one or more gift tags, purchase the present based on tag suggestions and return the gifts, wrapped by the 1st week in December. Gifts are distributed to the residents the week before Christmas. Average number of gifts provided is 180-200.
